Of Online Games and Female Gamers
In a male-infested online game, there’s a 0.000000000001% chance that you will find a REAL female gamer. Oh you know what I mean when I stressed the word “REAL.” *cough*chixilog*cough*
In the Philippines, it’s very typical that when an avatar indicates that a player is a girl, people will ask for her Friendster and/or YM account to check if she’s really a girl. Once they’re sure, they’ll start spamming her with private messages or interview her through chat channels. They’ll ogle like they saw Maria Ozawa while walking in a mall.
I’ve had my fair share of being a Maria Ozawa (refer to the previous paragraph. hindi ako feeling, OK? ). I was still new to online games and I started with Ragnarok. I checked their website and saw that they featured players. I submitted my “form” with my picture just for the heck of it A few days later… Woot! I was on their website.
The whole time I was in-game, three or four players asked me if I was the same TUKNENENG on the website and they were asking for my Friendster. But this guy “outshone” them all:
Boy: Ikaw ba yung TUKNENENG sa site?
Me: Uh… opo ^^
Boy: Pakasal tayo
Me: Ha? Eh madami pa akong kailangang bilhin eh.. (an in-game wedding in Ragnarok cost 2M back then and I didn’t have that much Zeny)
Boy: Ano pa kailangan mo? Bibilhin ko.
*PMs to friend* Me: May nag PM sa aking player. Bibilhin daw nya gusto ko basta lang pakasalan ko sya LOL. Kung tarantado lang ako, peperahan ko to HAHAHAHA!
Friend: Edi perahan mo LOL!
It was a lesson learned not to tell anyone that you’re a girl or, worse, post your profile on a site gamers frequently access. From then on, I started using male avatars to avoid these experiences. This may apply to other female gamers as well.
Guys pouring attention moderately is nice but more than that is irritating. It’s OK to ask for Friendster or YM accounts and the like but when a girl says no, don’t push it. Chat in moderation as well because most prolly they’re PL-ing or farming. Nakakaistorbo kayo.
Harassment is a no-no. I’ve heard and read testimonies from female gamers that were harassed because they didn’t want to give their Friendster or stopped talking to them because she’s doing something. I don’t see why these guys resort to such derogatory acts. Haven’t you seen or interacted with a girl in your entire life?
Further evidence that female gamers do exist is through competitive tournaments. I know you’ve seen them especially during the Ragnarok World Championship 2008. There were female competitors up there! I’ve also seen female players that were part of a team during my CUS legs and they can really pack a punch This only proves that female gamers can be as competitive and hardcore as their male counterparts. So guys, let’s remove the notion that female gamers are weak. I’ve whopped a lot of guys’ asses in PVP.
Although the brain of the female species is more haywired than the male’s, our level of interest for games, be it online or console, are the same as yours. And yes, female gamers DO exist. The author of this entry is one of the many lurking and disguising themselves.

Only few guys know a girl who play online games. If each and every guy who plays online games have more or less 10 gamer girls as a friend, then it shoud’ve been evident na madami ngang babae naglalaro ng online games. Unfortunately, guys still dominate the gaming world.
Besides, kung ganon talaga kadaming babae naglalaro, sana wala nang nagtatanong ng friendster nila para ma verify kung babae nga talaga sila.

I’m a real girl and I play online games just like what boys do. Nararanasan ko ang mga yan, FS, YM etc. then sangkatutak na interview like asking for your name, address, age, at kung may BF na @.@. Grabeh then sile kung mag PM, kaka OL pa lang, pm agad and I find them quite irritating na so there are times that I would replied them frankly.
Anyway, guys shouldn’t underestimate the girls, also, pay us a little respect :D

pantay lang naman yan. may dis/advantage kau(girl gamers), meron din kami. lets take you for example, kayo pwede gumamit ng male avatars without negative comments, pero kami ano? tatawagin kaming chixilog. what do you think we boys feel about that?
i guess what im trying to say is-to cut it short-whether it bugs you or not, its part of the game, its part of the experience! beside, you can always ignore them.^^

Im a guy pero gumagamit ako ng female characters to play online, kung ask kung bakit? kasi lalaki ako and ang sagwa tignan nang lalaki pa rin ang character mo online im not fond of looking, playing male characters kasi type ko BABAE ! ! !
In short kanya kanyang taste yan kung lalaki ka na mahilig sa lalaki rin abay ikaw na yan!

elo.i like this blog.i started flyff yrs ago.i practically undergone the same as some female gamers.but sometimes they wont believe i am a girl esp.if i play boy char.(i am 33,f,married,w/ 9 y.old son)my husband introduced me to flyff and i got hooked when i dont have anything to do alone at home.but all is up to us gamers.we can control our gaming life like in the real life.

I like this blog. Tama si GM Cydie. Khit ako na isang guy na iinis ako pag ung madaming nag pm sa mga friend ko na girl while in game. Di kmi mka pag-PL. Haha. Minsan mag-TP pa sila.
